Rohingya Crisis

, The UN Refugee Agency ( UNHCR CANADA / HCR CANADA)

More than 770,000 Rohingya people have been forced to flee their homes in Myanmar since 2017 when violence broke out, putting their lives at risk.

The Rohingya people are the largest identified stateless population in the world. They have faced persecution for decades leading to waves of displacement from their home country of Myanmar.

In their years living in displacement, the Rohingya people have shown their resilience, surviving conflict, persecution, massive fires and natural disasters that continue to build in intensity as the impacts of climate change grow.

UNHCR is on the ground in Bangladesh providing lifesaving aid to Rohingya refugees, but resources are stretched thin. You can help rush critical aid including food, clean water, medicine and tents to desperate Rohingya children and families.

Those who fled in 2017, joined a Rohingya community already living in Bangladesh. Some people there had been born in exile, never having seen their homeland.

Today, close to 1 million Rohingya refugees live in densely populated camps, largely dependent on humanitarian aid to help meet their daily needs. Living conditions mean fires are a constant threat. In March 2023, fires destroyed 3,000 shelters. Soon after, the camp was also hit by cyclone Mocha, only to be followed by the intense rains of monsoon season.

As their time in displacement continues to grow, so do their needs. With your support, UNHCR can continue working to support Rohingya refugees and, when conditions allow, assist them in returning home. Until then, you can help ensure they’re safe and protected.

Please make a gift today and provide Rohingya refugees with the support they need.
