Funds also go towards providing information and support to women and men living with breast cancer as well as their families and caregivers.
Progress is being made! Investing in the best breast cancer research in Canada has helped to cut the breast cancer death rate nearly in half (48%) since it peaked in 1986 through improvements in early detection and treatment. Because of investments in research, more women are surviving a breast cancer diagnosis than ever before – 88% of women will survive at least five years or more after a breast cancer diagnosis.
Yet the tremendous impact of breast cancer remains undeniable. Breast cancer is still the most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death among Canadian women. It is for these reasons that we remain committed to funding the best breast cancer research, provide the largest cancer support system in the country and advocate on behalf of all Canadians for important social change.
With 1 in 8 Canadian women being diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and, on average, 70 women diagnosed with breast cancer every day in Canada, your support has never been more important.
