Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) is an international media development organization that works to strengthen local media in post-conflict countries and societies in transition, thus helping ensure media plays its rightful role in the democratization process as a champion of free expression and check and balance on power. Currently, JHR works in Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mali, Tunisia, Liberia, the Gambia, Ghana, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda, with Indigenous communities in Canada and in the Middle East with Syrian diaspora, and in Iraq and Yemen. JHR's work gives a voice to some of the most marginalized populations in the world, ensures human rights issues are on the public agenda in those countries, and that governments are held accountable to the needs of their constituents. The charity has been in operations for 19 years and has trained a total of 12,500 journalists, that, in total have reached an audience of approximately 60 million people with stories on crucial human rights issues.
