United Way Greater Toronto: Racialized Communities Impact Area

Systemic racism and discrimination are among the root causes of poverty. Built on a legacy of colonialism, they are barriers to social, political, and economic prosperity. At the same time, people may face other forms of inequity such as sexism, ableism, and homophobia. We saw very clearly how racism impacts our community during the pandemic, as public health institutions across the GTA reported higher rates of infection and death among racialized populations.

At United Way Greater Toronto, we aim to dismantle systemic barriers so racialized communities have the same opportunities to access employment, education and housing - and to fully participate in civic life.

As a partner, advocate, and community-builder, we take a multi-pronged approach to this complex challenge, supporting solutions that address urgent and unmet needs through focused programs as well as strategies for systems-level change.
