United Way Greater Toronto: Settlement Impact Area

The GTA is projected to remain the country’s biggest hub for immigration, and by 2041 four out of five Torontonians will be born overseas or born to immigrant parents. They have a vital role to play in the economic, social, and civic vitality of our community.

Too often, however, newcomers and refugees face barriers such as language, discrimination, high unemployment, and social isolation, so they are at higher risk of experiencing poverty. Other groups, such as those without status, are further marginalized because they are ineligible for federally funded settlement supports.

At United Way Greater Toronto, we aim to enable the inclusion of newcomers and refugees in our communities and help them develop and reach their full potential in their new home.

As a partner, advocate, and community-builder, we support solutions that address urgent and unmet needs through focused programs as well as strategies for systems-level change.
